Successful Intentions Newsletter

Hi ,

How do you make a good decision?

By following the yellow brick road!

Think of a really important decision you need to make, and use the story of the Wizard of Oz as a series of "filters" through which to run the decision.

Dorothy asks the question, "what do you really wish for?" In the story she just wants to go home. If you could wave a magic wand what would you most wish for from your decision?

As she sets out along the yellow brick road Dorothy first meets the Scarecrow. He wants to ask the Wizard of Oz for a brain. So use your brain and ask yourself, "what are the costs and benefits of making this decision?" Do the calculations, run the analysis, and weigh up the consequences.

Next, they meet the Tinman, who is in need of a heart. What does your heart tell you about this decision? in particular, "what do you feel anxious or uncertain about?"

Then the three companions meet the Lion. What does he want from the Wizard of Oz? He wants courage. So what are you afraid of? Ask yourself, "what are the unknowns about this decision?"

When Dorothy and her friends finally reach the Emerald City and meet the great and powerful Wizard of Oz, he asks the question "what's the wisest thing to do?" What's your answer, ?

But before he grants their wishes he sets them a quest. They must retrieve the ruby slippers from the Wicked Witch of the West. Perhaps this decision of yours is also something of a quest. Ask yourself, "What must you personally overcome?"

Now you have come to the end of the journey. What has this process revealed to you about your decision? Are you closer to finding your way home? Just like Dorothy, perhaps you've had the answer all along. All you had to do was realize it!
