Successful Intentions Newsletter

Hi ,

New leadership or old leadership? What's needed now is fresh leadership!

Freshening up your leadership is like taking a tic-tacŪ to freshen your breath. First you've got to know there's a problem when you're around people, and then you've got to prepare yourself before moving in!

This is the TIC-TAC model of leadership: Exercising authority without fear of "bad breath", and keeping communication fresh at all times.

TIC-

There are three processes of authority in leadership:

  1. Testing: Checking assumptions and ensuring that others understand your intentions. Team members aren't mind-readers!
  2. Identifying: Delegating tasks clearly and effectively by knowing what each team member can do.
  3. Certifying: Giving clear decision-making responsibility to team members for specific operational or project steps.

There are three processes of communication in leadership:

  1. Thinking: Constructing the required strategy in your head before taking action. This is the most powerful aspect of leadership. Take the time to reflect and think about what to do before communicating it.
  2. Articulating: Talking about your thinking and making it clear to everyone what it is you want to achieve and why it's important. No-one is inspired without some kind of vision or compelling call to action.
  3. Coaching: Driving action in others through encouraging their individual resources rather than telling them what to do (all the time). Foster their talents and you will build a winning team!

Remember to take a TIC-TAC daily to keep your leadership fresh!
