Successful Intentions Newsletter
Hi ,
OK, the festive season is over. The tinsel has been tossed, relatives and hangovers have been banished, and the credit cards are toast! Now, what are you going to do in 2007?
Suppose I gave you a piece of magic parchment. Anything you desire for yourself or those close to you comes true if you write it down on the magic parchment. Everything! What would you write?
Yes, yes I know. You think it's a fairy tale. But what if it really were true? Remember the Genie's three wishes? You'd have to think very carefully about what you wrote down wouldn't you!
There's already enough good science around to show that writing things down definitely helps goal achievement. Anecdotally people have reported writing down their dreams and desires on paper, forgetting about it. And then unearthing the original paper years later to find that many of the things they wrote down had, in fact come to pass!
But there's another kind of scientific investigation into why and how some people seem to manifest their dreams while others don't. It's the science of Ti or Transformational Intention. Lynne McTaggart gives an extensive background in her most recent (2007) book,
"The Intention Experiment". And a panel of Physicists and Philosophers describe this science as a "universal law of attraction" in "The Secret" DVD.
| "Be careful what you wish for, it might come true." Unknown |
But it's actually no secret. Anymore than the law of gravity is a secret. It works whether you know it or not. The difference is your awareness of it.
There are 5 pre-conditions for your awareness of Ti:
- You must be capable of thinking systemically, at least at Kegan's (1994) Fourth or Fifth "Order of Mind". For example, do you acknowledge that you are the "author" of your own life?
- You must have a good level of "learned optimism" or "authentic happiness". Take the test here to find out.
- You must have some demonstrated success in setting and achieving goals in your life. Not necessarily earth-shattering goals. Just ordinary, garden-variety goals!
- You must have a sufficiently developed level of "emotional intelligence" to interact successfully with social networks. Take the EQ quiz here.
- You must also have at least some established skills or occupational capability within the framework of possibility you wish to consider. It's neither accurate nor fair to claim that anyone can do anything they want, just by following the "steps", whatever they may be. It's like saying a 6-year old can drive from Sydney to Melbourne if they really want to!
So , do you meet these conditions? Of course you do, otherwise you wouldn't be reading this!
Now, take out a piece of paper. Press it against your forehead. Then hold it up to the sun for a minute and a half. A-presto! It's now magic parchment! And here's how you begin the process of "living the life you intend":
- Find a quiet place to sit with no distractions. Somewhere that feels like a kind of sanctuary to you.
- Practice mindfulness meditation: Just simply sitting still and focusing on your breathing. Notice the in-breath, and the out-breath. Acknowledge your thoughts but keep returning to awareness of the breath.
- Now generate a feeling of compassion and gratefulness. Imagine that you are breathing through your heart. See yourself connected to all living things through your compassion and gratefulness.
- When you're ready, actively express your intention. Speak it silently, but with a clear sense of purposefulness. Use present tense. Speak your intention as if it is already here, now. Use a positive expression. Speak of what you want rather than what you don't want.
- Visualize your intention as a reality, now. Engage all your senses. What does it feel like, sound like, smell like? Paint the picture as vividly as you can. Then step into it.
- Now write down as much you can about your intention on your magic parchment! Be specific. Don't intend for world peace. Intend for something highly specific. State your objective exactly. EXPECT it to come to pass, without necessarily knowing how.
- Continue to be mindful on a daily basis. Notice the gentle whispers and subtle signs that lead you in the direction of your intention. Act on intuition. Take the opportunity. Step outside your boundaries.
Experimental evidence suggests that those who are most effective at this have trained their minds, in the same way that an athlete trains their muscles, to maximize the chances of success. Practice this , and you will harness the power to manifest your dreams!
Of course, there are obstacles, circumstances, and reasons why this doesn't always work the way you intended it to. It's like paddling down an unfamiliar river. But first, you have to get in the water!
, watch out for public training courses in Ti: Transformational Intention coming soon to a venue near you!
