Crisp Confidence

Preparation IS essential and so we presenters polish every word - yet research shows audiences focus most on our gestures, expression and tone.

Meaning is perceived via:

This was highlighted at my son's recent Year 12 Graduation Ceremony as 200 wonderful young people with huge potential walked onstage to receive certificates. What a range of body language shone through each 30 seconds' limelight!

Stage presentation: Some strode or leapt onstage with aplomb. Others huddled in hair. Some were nonchalant or cautious - and there's always a clown. (How do you walk into a meeting or presentation, ?)

Handshakes: the outgoing, the coy; some reluctant, while others grasped brilliant futures with both hands. (What does your handshake reveal about you, ?)

Dress/undress: a variety of the gloriously dressy and leggy/ neat and businesslike/ arty statements (yes, my son) / the sporty casuals.

They typified the FOUR TEMPERAMENTS, which feature in my team building workshops:

Cholerics: the leaders, who tend to be outspoken, always right. They set high standards for all - but need tolerance. Innovative and decisive, they meet challenges head on.

Sanguines: bright fun lovers who enthuse others. As they'll try anything they over commit - so easily discourage. They need praise like oxygen!

Melancholics: deep thinkers and feelers, genius prone. Perfectionist and easily wounded, your words (both criticism or praise) will linger forever. Prone to procrastinate. Need sincere encouragement.

Phlegmatics are easy going, peace makers when careless choleric/sanguine words wound the melancholic. They hate to offend by saying ‘no' so instead vote with their feet. Need help to commit to goals - and meet them.
