Great Ideas for Pubs
How to 'stand out' with your advertising!
"What do you do if you see something on the classified advertising
page that is of interest to you and you want to mark it for easy
recall?" Of course you take a texta and circle the ad! When we
advertise our hotel broking business in the classified columns we circle
the ad as part of our copy. This has the effect of capturing the
entire page as the reader's eye goes immediately goes to the circled
section.
We cover this kind of thinking in my book "The Hospitality
Jungle" in the Zebra marketing chapter - which is all about how to
'stand out' from the herd when you have low budgets!

Appropriate name for Bistro/Restaurant
In Terrigal, on the Central Coast of New South Wales, I found this appropriately named Cafe called the 'Get Stuffed' cafe.

How to double the space in a small bar/bistro
Saw this idea in Terrigal, a beachside town on the Central Coast of New South Wales Coast
in Australia. Recently I noted this mural in a coffee shop in Terrigal. Althought the shop is quite small the mural cleverly connects the floor actual floor space to
the virtual mural space. The result is that the shop appears to be much bigger than it is. Click on the picture to enlarge it and you will notice a 'real' customer on the far left hand
side of the picture.

Make your Bistro a 'fun place'
Here is a Bistro/Restaurant idea that works gangbusters. Use white 'butchers paper' as table cloths. Make sure you put some crayons in a small jar on the table too. Encourage you
guests to write on this paper 'table cloth'. It is a great idea for familly style Restaurants. It also works for businessmen who also like to
make notes and doodle at lunches. On departing then simply tear off their notes and take them back
to the office. Click on the picture to enlarge it.

Make your Motel rooms 'stand out' from the herd?
Have you noticed how most Motels look the same? In the city of Mt Isa, Queensland, Australia the innovative owners of the Mt Isa Motel decided to do it
differently. Instead of the usual plain brick (boring) facade on each unit they chose to research the history of early Mt Isa and create replica fronts of the towns
original shops. You'll find the Hardware Shop, The Baker's shop, The Butcher's shop....etc. etc. It
really is memorable. I saw guests happily telling their fellow travellers "I'm in the Butcher Shop...I'm
in the Baker Shop..." I've not noticed the same excitement when guests were staying in Room 406
or 201! Click on picture to enlarge it.
Save money on bathroom plumbing
This is a clever idea. At the W Hotel in Wooloomooloo Sydney hand basin have been replaced with a single sheet of marble. The marble sheet replaces three basins and the resultant problems of cleaning them efficiently.

Using the balcony in Balmain
The Town Hall Hotel in Balmain, Sydney, very cleverly built a balcony to add more tables to its Restaurant Bistro on the first floor. It overlooks the main shopping area of Balmain and now has become the most requested seating area in the Restaurant.
